Terrified of marrying Rishi (the same guy who spent his bachelor party passed out next to 4 guys) out of an obligation towards his father who raised her when her parents passed away, Maya is sitting and wallowing on a bench when she meets Dev. The first and the only red flag that needed to be taken into consideration but was ignored just like morality was in the entire film.ĭev’s mom aka Kiron Kher is catering at Rishi and Maya’s wedding and stumbles upon ‘Sexy Sam’ who is the only sensible yet kinkiest character in the film played by Amitabh Bachchan. And don’t even get us started on how much happier she looks with a washcloth in her hand than imagining Rishi by her side - the man she is about to marry but, clearly, doesn’t want to. Maya aka Rani Mukherjee’s introduction is given by showing her cleaning a mirror.on her wedding day.in a lehenga. Manchild, alert!Ĭut to a rather controversial scene where Rishi aka Abhishek Bachchan is seen passed out on a couch after what seems like a college frat party but was instead his bachelor party - with only bachelors in sight… 4 of them to be precise.

Within the first 5 minutes of the movie we’ve established that Dev is a bit of an ass and instead of being happy that his wife nailed the interview, comes at her for missing his game and rubs the fact that he earns more than her right in her face. Meanwhile his wife Rhea aka Preity Zinta is walking up for her interview as the Editor of a fashion magazine and gets judgemental looks for being the strong, independent and a career-oriented woman. The movie starts with an OTT introduction to the film’s most bitter and annoying character Dev aka Shah Rukh Khan, who is currently playing football for a big league. And, audiences expect far more with this cast than 'not a bad film'.Another one of Karan Johar’s problematic productions from the 2000s that gave toxic individuals a push for pursuing extra-marital affairs and even justify them, this movie is about leaving your morals behind and diving headfirst into problematic concepts, like cheating on your very loyal spouse.

Not a bad film.but one that could have had some great things to say about life and marriage but instead is just confusing in its message. It also has a few funny moments.but often you wonder if the humor is out of place in such a drama. It sometimes has good points to make about marriage.and other times it seems to drop the ball. Overall, this is an incredibly uneven film. I just found myself not caring very much as they all helped to create awful marriages.and affairs or divorces won't solve this problem. It also makes it uncomfortable rooting for the relationships. As you watch the film, you can't help but think all four of the main characters are at fault for their marriages and going from one marriage to an affair doesn't solve the basic problem that they're all very screwed up. Later, Maya and Dev meet again.and they soon begin spending time miserating about their respective bad marriages. Maya's husband, Rishi (Abhishek Bachchan) isn't a terrible person.but he's very immature and childish.and Maya soon becomes disenchanted with him and the marriage. Because the marriage is a cold mess, when Dev meets Maya (Mukerji) on her wedding day, he mostly talks about how marriage is awful.and eventually this becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. His wife, Riya (Zinta) is a workaholic who makes great money and runs a major fashion magazine.but is cold and distant.

Dev (Khan) is a cynical pro ex-footballer whose career was ended when he was run over by a car.

So, when it comes to examining two failing marriages, the audience is left confused.and are left wondering if they should even care. Others are NOT consistently written, such as SRK.who in some ways is a sad, likable guy.but he's also often an abrasive jerk.especially when it comes to his poor son. Some characters seem like they are in the wrong film (such as Amitabh Bachchan who mostly plays comic relief) as they just don't fit with the theme. The main problem is that the film is trying to be very adult and make some excellent points about marriage.but the writing simply isn't great but more inconsistent.

So why does it only have a paltry 6.1 score on IMDB? After seeing the film, I think I can understand the film's underwhelming overall score as well as the many lukewarm or negative reviews. So, it's obvious the producers spared no expense in making the film. It was also filmed in the New York City area. "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kenha" is a film starring some of Bollywood's top talent.Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek, Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji.
